A Glimpse of Spring.

April 14, 2014

Ahh… Spring temperatures hit the 60′s today. The first time this year when I feel it’s officially Spring time. This day, I spent the daylight moments outside doing pre-mosquito season work. Any activity standing still for more than 5 minutes or any movement slower than a mosquito’s flight speed (1-1.5 miles per hour) was done today. Examples include, but not limit to: reading a book, cleaning out garden beds, sitting on the grass having a lunch, playing with the dogs, and raking the lawn.

By mid-afternoon, I grabbed my camera to focus in on the Crocus flowers.  They are the only thing in bloom in my gardens right now.  And, to my enjoyment, I was able to capture not only the vibrant colors of the Crocuses, but a bee hard at work.  Look at the amount of pollen covering it and it still continued to work!  I’m so thankful to have been there at the right time.  It was a perfect end to a day at home.

Sting of Winter

September 24, 2013

Have you ever seen a bee hive on the side of the road that was built with just one single branch as the main support to the bee colony?  I am unsure of the longevity of this bee hive as it sways back and forth in the wind on this agile, weak branch and is continously tested for weight tolerance.

Bee Hive

Yes, I’m crazy to be so close knowing the bees are active and this structurally weak branch is keeping bees from flocking towards human flesh to sting – just once (but by many participants).   I can’t imagine this bee hive surviving the harsh winters of New England.  The hive is just over 8 feet off the ground and about 4 feet off the road.  I am certain the town of Greenfield will take the colony down with the first swipe of a snow blade (that is if the increasing weight of the bee colony doesn’t max out the branch’s tolerance level).

All this hard work will be short lived.

Stratham Fair

August 6, 2013

In July, we attended the Stratham Fair during the 95 degree weather. The rides were shut down from 2-5 PM due to the heat.  Why?  Because fair officals and public safety officals were concerned riders would be stuck in the heat if equipment broke down, ride operators and attendees could suffer from heat exhaustion, and people could be burned by hot metal on rides and other equipment… Fully understandable.

When we arrived, the parking lot wasn’t even close to full.  I think beaches, running rivers, kitty pools, and air conditioning were more interesting to most people with temperatures in the 90′s.  For the people that attended the fair, water coolers with disposable cups were placed strategically along the pathways within the fair grounds to prevent attendees from dehydration and heat stroke.

We were there through the dinner hour and found minimal lines of people waiting for food.  Once the rides were authorized to opened up again, the ride operators had to wait for people rather than people waiting for the ride.  I hope Saturday and Sunday make up for the loss of attendees from the heat.

The Greats

July 20, 2013

I took some time off from work this last week to photograph a wedding and  to spend some quality time with my family.  My brother and his family came up from Florida for a visit.  I was able to squeeze in a few days with them to catch up on their lives.

It seems as I get older, the hours in the day go by much quicker than when I was pre-job and pre-drivers license days.  You know, the days when you only had homework to do and your favorite Schwinn to get you where you wanted to go?   My guess is as responsiblity and expectations keep piling up on an individual, there comes a time when there is not enough time in the day to achieve all that is given to oneself.  When this happens, life flies by.

Mandy and Mathew are my great niece and nephew.  I’m thankful we were able to spend some quality time together.

Where’s Amy?

August 25, 2012

Thanks to those who have questioned my whereabouts.  I’m alive, well, and still living in New Hampshire.

I have made some changes (btw, change is good).  I’ve changed my career direction and pick-up the camera part-time now.  I’ve been welcomed in the corporate world and love it!  For the last several months I’ve been transitioning into my new career and a lot of my energy has been devoted to this direction.

Just recently, I’ve returned from taking a vacation with family in FL.  Did I bring my camera?  Of course, I did!  What better opportunity to clean off the cob webs and use family as a guinea pig.

During my visit, I saw my talented nephew, David Simoneau, perform at the Tin Cow.  I brought my off-camera flash and captured DJ while he sang his heart out.

Now that I’m becoming more grounded with my new career and direction, I will turn some of my creative energy towards updating my blog more often.

Thanks to my followers! :)
